Join us on an 11-day Italian pilgrimage, reliving the story of early Christianity as it transforms from struggling sect to cultural powerhouse.
As we journey from Rome to Assisi to Florence we will move simultaneously through the early eras of the church. In Rome, see where Peter and Paul preached and died, and contrast the simplicity of the newborn Christian churches and Catacombs with the might of the Roman Colosseum and sophistication of the Forum. In Umbria, walk 3 days on the Via di Francesco pilgrimage through remote Apennine villages and monasteries where St. Francis of Assisi launched his world-altering movement. And in Florence, the “cradle of the Renaissance,” consider how new understandings of the Incarnation informed the poetry, painting, and sculpture of Dante, Giotto, and Michelangelo.
All Duke undergraduate students are welcome to join. Space is limited to 14 and spots are granted on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration closes October 14.
