CCS Seminar: Sing for Joy! Music in the Christian Tradition

In this seminar, we will read about and listen to vocal music generated by Christians from different historical periods to gain a deeper perspective on the relationship between music and our faith. We will consider the following questions: what is the vocal music saying, who is singing, who is listening, and what is its use? We’ll study a different period in Western music in each of our first four meetings. In our final meeting, we’ll compare the works we’ve studied up to this point and briefly explore vocal music outside of the Western tradition.
